Skill-sharing/Talk on Trans* Experiences in the Music Scene

Animal House Productions & The Lancaster LGBTQ + Coalition Presents

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019 | Skill-sharing/Talk on Trans* Experiences in the Music Scene | Facilitated by Maja of Queers to the front Booking

Discussion: “Trans*women in the punk scene – between hyper-masculine Hardcore bands and toplessness space often grows small for gender-nonconforming individuals, even though especially the punk scene should be an ideal space for free expression and diversity. Maja as trans*woman that spent most of her life as a cis-man studied unique impressions of the vacuum between unambiguously male structures, pseudo-liberal venues, and queer-feminist utopias.

From the topless live photo at age 15 in the local newspaper to a tour manager for queer, feminist artists – there’s much development to speak about: The split between the fondness of Hardcore-Punk and the longing for femininity, mansplaining, estrogens and the difficulty to make an existence within an anti-capitalist scene sustainable.

Maja wants to provide insight into gender roles within the punk scene, share skills and speak about her development into professionally operating a political tour service. Together with you, Maja would like to contextualize experiences into political structures and learn from each other.

Maja operates her international tour service “Queers to the front Booking” and puts on DIY shows in Germany. She identifies as trans*female and uses the pronouns ‘she/her’.”

The evening will conclude with a Q&A w/ Maja followed by music performances by Beth Munroe Music.

Beth Munroe is a DIY london-based Indietronica artist, guitarist, vocalist, synth player, loop artist and producer. Using soulful vocals and thoughtful lyrics alongside guitar, synth, samples and loops to create an ambient wall of sound. |
